Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the traditional sextet style and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. Its more punk-rock sound reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard playing was also sharper, more complex and less akin to earlier efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a brand new studio album a few months after, and went on a world tour to help promote it. During this period keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.
