Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

It's frustrating to pull into your car at the end of a long workday and discover that your key fob is dead. This is a simple fix that can be done at a big box retailer or at a hardware store.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive alternative to not having to be towed to a dealership in order to have them re-program the keys.

Battery Replacement

Changing the battery in the mazda 323 key 3 key fob is an easy task that you can do at home. But, it is best to replace the battery when it fails, or when the key fob shows a message on the multi-information display, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need a flathead screwdriver with tape and patience to open the case. Locate a notch or gap in the bottom metal part of your Mazda 3's key fob and then insert the head of the screwdriver in it to pry off the lower half. Repeat this step for the top metal part however, be careful not to damage the rubber ring at bottom of the key fob's case.

When the fob case is open, you'll find the slots on either side of the case that houses the battery. Start on the opposite side of the case and gently pry it open. Place the battery cap on again and attach both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

Pairing Issues

The good thing is that there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue and figure out the root of the problem.

Interference signals can interfere with the remote key fob signal coming from the vehicle making it unable to work correctly. It can be caused by things like weather conditions, buildings and transmitters that operate on the same frequency. Interference may occur if your vehicle has aftermarket equipment that transmits at the same frequency as your key fob.

Additionally, if the key fob is exposed to water or salt the water, it might be damaged. The rubber seals on the electronic chip could be shattered by water, especially in the event that it is submerged for long periods of time such as in a pool or at the beach. The chip can stop working and require replacement of the keyfob. If you have a key that is able to be programmed or programmed, you can clean it with isopropyl or electronic cleaners to bring it back to its original functionality. If this doesn't work you can be sure that the chip is fried and requires replacement.

Locking/Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the key fob transmit electronic signals to a solenoid in the car. It then converts the signal into a mechanical action that locks and unlocks doors. If the door lock isn't functioning, the issue may be a solenoid issue that requires some investigation by a professional auto repair shop.
