Mesothelioma and Work Exposure

People who work with asbestos are at higher risk of mesothelioma. Firefighters, construction workers and military veterans are at a higher risk.

Mesothelioma mostly affects the lung's lining (pleural mesothelioma) or abdomen. In rare cases it can affect the heart or testicles.

Signs and symptoms

The tissues that line your lungs, stomach and heart are called mesothelium. Mesothelioma can develop in the mesothelium when cells start to expand out of control. It is believed that asbestos claim causes mesothelioma by damaging cells and DNA. The damaged cells are then reproduced and the cancer spreads over time. It is unclear what other factors cause mesothelioma. However, research has revealed that many people who get the disease have an exposure history to asbestos law.
