How to Replace an Audi Car Key Holder G28 Engine Speed Sensor

This sensor is located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through an uncolored wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, to trigger the spark and injectors.

Hyundai.jpgIf this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate a chain stretch or a jumpy chain link in the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

Testing can be a bit difficult as there are two different connector pins and they serve different purposes but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. If you are having problems with this sensor, look for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll i had a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or injectors are not firing at all. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, 3 were drenched in gasoline and the fourth was unclean. When I crank the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline pop out, but the 4th stay shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I assume that the problem is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The replacement car key audi can start when the G28 is not plugged in and runs fine when it is connected, but still is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is 0.

I don't know what to do. I believe that I've all other possibilities out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Test them out - put your DMM in resistance mode and take measurements between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's side up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make a decision about timing of the fuel injector, for example. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you encounter a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could lead to the engine shutting down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, or a misfire while in the gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is deteriorating and needs replacing. They're inexpensive and easy to locate, especially when they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this unit is also a good option.

5. Tachometer

A failing engine speed sensor could be the reason behind a slew of issues with your audi replacement car keys. It's an essential component of the audi car key's transmission as it sends information to the ECU about how the car's crankshaft is spinning. When this sensor fails, it will cause problems for the transmission and the other car's components.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 via an uncolored wire.
